ITS TSU

Having an ITS Texas Student Chapter at Texas Southern University (TSU) provides TSU students the opportunity in the study, research and applications of advanced technologies in Intelligent Transportation Systems. The first chapter meeting was held on September 23rd, 2010 with  30 members to join.

Dr. Fengxiang Qiao, an assistant professor at TSU Department of Transportation Studies serves as the advisor of this new student chapter.

Dr. Qiao¨s research focuses are on: (1) intelligent traffic simulation and forecasting, (2) massive data processing of intelligent transportation system data, (3) intelligent dependent modeling of traffic flow, and etc. Dr. Qiao teaches the course Intelligent Transportation System Technologies and Application for graduate students at TSU.

Dr. Xuemin Chen

Xuemin Chen joined the faculty of Texas Southern University (TSU) in the fall of 2006 after spending nine years with University of Houston (UH). At UH, he was a Visiting Scholar, Post Doctoral Fellow and later on a Research Assistant Professor. He performed research in Subsurface Sensing. He was actively involved in more than ten Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) research projects on advanced sensor design, sensor network and signal processing. The research project, Thickness Measurement of Reinforced Concrete Pavement by Using Ground Penetrating Radar which he severed as Co-PI, claimed the Top Research Innovations and Findings award from TxDOT in 2004.

Currently, his research interests include virtual and remote laboratory development, and wireless sensor networks. He is PI for NSF CCLI and NSF IEECI projects, and Co-PI for NSF HUCB-UP project.
