The purpose of the Training, Education, and Technology Transfer Subcommittee is to promote the development and success of transportation emergency management security training, education, and technology transfer programs                

 The Subcommittee seeks to achieve this goal by:

       Bringing together and initiating dialogue among representatives from each sector,

       Identifying best practices and strategies to improve upon and expand these programs,

       Facilitating the development of similar programs in other educational institutions and arenas, and

       Developing guidelines and protocols for training, education, and technology transfer.

 

2007 TRB Annual Meeting activities included a session on funding sources for emergency management training and education and a workshop on NIMS 每National Incident Management Systems. During the Subcommittee meeting held during the TRB Annual Meeting, many potential research topics were discussed.  Of these topics, the Committee decided to select the topic on Guidebook on Emergency Management / NIMS Training and has submitted a problem statementThe objective of this research is the development of a Guidebook on Emergency Management / NIMS Training.  The Guidebook will identify emergency management and transportation-specific training useful for transportation workers and not currently being provided, and transportation-specific training useful for first responders and not currently being provided. Training assessment guidelines will be created in conjunction with the National Integration Center (NIC) to support the highest levels of competence and preparedness among transportation personnel and first responders.

2008 TRB Annual Meeting activities will include a workshop on Highway Watch and National Incident Management System (NIMS) with presentations by Dawn Apple of Highway Watch and Elisa Nichols of Kensington Consulting LLC.  A Subcommittee meeting will also be held during the Annual Meeting 每 date/time/location and preliminary Agenda will be distributed prior to the meeting.

2009 TRB Annual Meeting activities will include a workshop (109) on Costing Asset Protection and a session (434) on Innovations in Security and Safety Training for the 21st Century. The ABE40(5) Subcommittee meeting will also be held during the Annual Meeting 每 see the TRB meeting page for the date/time/location and preliminary Agenda of the subcommittee meeting.
